Welcome back!

Welcome back for the 3rd trimester of Freshman year!  Trimester 3 begins on Tuesday, April 27th.   I look forward to seeing you all!

Below is some information that I need you to review before we start on Tuesday:

Dress Code:
  • You will need to be in DRESS CODE, even your shoes.   Please click on the link to see a detailed description of the City High Dress Code
  • You must wear a mask that covers your mouth AND nose throughout the day.
Attendance
  • I've attached the list of students who selected to come in-person.  You will come to school Tuesday-Friday.  You will not be permitted to attend classes virtually.  If you are unable to make it into school, you will just be absent for the day.  When you return to school, bring a note from your parent/guardian and the absence will be excused.
  • If you are virtual and are absent for the day or from a class, your parent/guardian must also send a note in so that your absence is excused.
  • In-person and Virtual students can have 7 unexcused absences in a class.  More than 7 unexcused absences means your grade will drop one letter grade.  Send absence excuses to attendance@cityhigh.org or bring a paper note to school within 3 days of your absence.
Other Info
  • You will enter the building at the Main entrance (walk up the steps, pass the flagpole and make left. You will see the entrance to the school)
  • You must follow the directional arrows in the hallway.
  • You must maintain appropriate social distance between yourself and others.
  • All of the other City High rules still apply.  Please review your STUDENT HANDBOOK for details.
  • Failure to follow any of the safety rules put in place will result in you returning to virtual learning.
  • Virtual students must be visible on camera for the entire class.  If you are not visible, you will be removed and marked absent.
Material pick-up day for VIRTUAL students is on Monday from 10:00-4:00.  You must come in to pick up your schedule, and any books/supplies you need for your classes.

I know there are a lot of new rules and things are going to be different, but if we all do our part, we can make this work!  Please email me if you have any questions.

Best,

Mrs. Platt

Meet Poet Naomi Shihab Nye + Free Book

 Hey Class of 2024!

I wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity through Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures. City High students are invited to meet with Young People's Poet Laureate Naomi Shihab Nye virtually on March 11! We'll be joined by students at three other schools as well.

If you'd like to participate, we plan to read and discuss her newest book of poems, Everything Comes Next, to prepare for the live session. You'll be given a free copy of the book, and can read a sample here. Naomi's poetry often explores memory, identity (including her Palestinian American heritage), place, immigration, and nationality.

Please reply to me by Wednesday, January 27, if you'd like to join us! Let me know if you have questions.
